Folgers Coffee: A Rich History of Quality and Innovation

One of the most enduring and endearing brands in American history, Folgers coffee has been providing great tasting coffee since 1850. From the iconic Pioneer Coffee logo to the Folgers Memorial Tin, Folgers has been a staple in American households for generations. With a commitment to coffee producers and drinkers around the world, Folgers has remained at the top through innovation and an eye on its rich history, despite growing competition, new trends and changes in how and where people drink the drink. The story of Folgers Coffee began in 1850 when James Folgers, a young gold miner, began selling coffee to miners in California. An 1852 advertisement for William Bovee's coffee and spice mill, where James Folger got his first job in San Francisco, featured the Pioneer Coffee logo.

This logo showed a gold miner by a Sierra creek and was used for many years to come. In 1872, James Folger II opened J. A. Folger & Co., a coffee roasting plant in San Francisco. The company quickly grew and by the early 1900s, Folger's was one of the largest coffee companies in the United States.

In 1963, Procter & Gamble acquired Folgers Coffee and began to market it nationally under the Folgers brand. Throughout its history, Folgers has been known for its quality products. An original coffee barrel from J. Folger & Co., which stored roasted coffee beans, is still on display at the Smithsonian Institution. Workers preparing to ship Folgers Regular Grind and the new Folgers Drip Grind were also known for their attention to detail. During World War II, an announcement was made informing customers about Folger's updated metal-preserving packaging.

In 1968, an ad highlighted a Folgers variety made especially for the electric percolator. In 1985, Folgers introduced decaffeinated coffee in the green can. In recent years, Folgers has continued to innovate with new products such as Folgers Crystals which presents itself with the campaign “Tastes as Rich It as Looks” and a promotion of the Folgers ERTL ride-on racer coffee machine. In 2005, a Memorial Tin was sold to help with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in New Orleans. Today, Folgers is still committed to providing quality products to its customers. The company has a research and development team that is constantly looking for ways to improve their products and meet customer needs.

They also have a commitment to coffee producers and drinkers around the world. Folgers Coffee is a brand of ground coffee, instant and pods produced in the United States and sold there, as well as in Asia, Canada and Mexico. It is part of the food and beverage division of The J. M. Smucker Company.

With over 170 years of experience in providing quality products to its customers, it is no wonder that Folgers Coffee has become one of America's most beloved brands.
